The Story of the Lonely Tiger Cub

By Katherine Hammond

Deep in the heart of the Indian jungle lived a family of tigers, There was a mummy tiger, a daddy tiger and their three young cubs.

They where a loved family loved by all who knew them, everyone looked up to them and asked them for advice and Hannah and Mark would always help out and the others would help them too when they could.

One day, when the sun was shining bright and the heat was almost unbearable Hannah and Mark decided to take their three young cubs to their favourite watering hole for a drink, the cubs loved to play in the water on a hot day to cool down when the sun was hot.

When they arrived Telitha, Tanya and Tony ran straight to the water where they played for hours in the cold water.

All of a sudden, Tony spotted something shining on the other side of the water, It sparkled brightly in the sun, so he decided to go and have a look to see if he could find what ever it was.

Tony swam towards it, when he got to the other side he was amazed, he had never seen anything like it before so he called his sisters over to have a look.

The three cubs stood in amazement they had no idea what it was, it was a large shiney box with a big gap, the inside was covered in leaves, “wouldn’t it be a fun place to roll around in” said Tony.

Tony and Tanya agreed and they decided they wanted to explore the box and have a look inside but no sooner had they gone inside there was a loud clang behind them, the big gap had somehow closed in on them and they where trapped.

Telitha was so scared and no matter what she she tried nothing she did could free her brothers so she swam as fast as she could to get her mum and dad.

When she told Hannah and Mark what had happened they rushed as fast as they could to rescue their two cubs.

But when they arrived the large shiny box was once again open and the two cubs where no where to be seen.

Hannah and Tony looked around hopelessly for their cubs but no matter where they looked they where not there.

Things started to look hopeless when Mark noticed some strange looking markings on the floor.

Mark decided that he was going to follow the strange markings on the floor in the hope that it would lead him to his sons but very soon the strange markings went out of site and in front of him stood a tall wooden gate. The children must be behind these gates he thought but how am I going to get behind them too they are too tall to climb things seemed hopeless.

It was then that he decided the only way he was going to find his cubs was to allow themselves to be caught the same way as they where so they went back to the large box and climb inside and became trapped themselves.

Mark, Hannah and Talitha waited in the small box for hours, it was starting to get dark and then suddenly out of nowhere 2 small men appeared out of nowhere in a large truck. They approached the cage and couldn’t believe there eyes 5 tigers in one day said one of the men what a good day I will go get another cage as there is no way we are going to be able to move this cage on our own.

However, when the men opened the door to the cage Telitha decided to make a run for it, she took one look at the men and how scary they looked, “I am sorry mum and dad” she shouted “I love you all but I am scared I will wait here for you to return”

Telitha waited and waited, days turned into nights and there was no sign of her family.

Telitha is fully grown now with cubs of her own, she often takes them to that very watering hole were she last saw her family and remembers how lonely she was without them.
