How My Powers Changed Me

By Katherine Hammond

My life used to be normal. I wasn’t popular at school, but I was happy. I had a best friend, a loving family and a beautiful puppy named Fluke.

My 16th birthday drew near and strange things were beginning to happen. I was able to read peoples minds. At first I found it a little bit scary, but I soon realised I could use it to my advantage, but I was still unsure of what was happening.

My 16th birthday came and my parents where acting very strange, they were jumpy when the phone rang, which was not like them. I tried to ask them what was wrong, but they insisted that everything was fine.

The postman came and as normal there was plenty of cards for me. As I opened them all , I came across a card, I didn’t recognize the handwriting on the envelope. I opened it . It said “TO A SPECIAL NIECE”. I was very confused, all my aunties and uncles had already given me a card. So I opened the card and read the note inside. It was someone called Elizabeth. She said she was my long lost auntie and that she had something she needed to tell me. She asked me to meet her the next day in a café in the town centre. I was not sure if I should go or not.

However, I did go to the café. I must have sat in the café for half an hour before a lady entered and started looking around. It wasn’t long before she was sat next to me telling me about the last time she had seen me. She had lovely long blonde hair,

which was tied back in a blue hair bobble. She was wearing a denim mini skirt and a white sparkly top.

The words that came out of her mouth next changed my life forever, she told me that I was a witch and that to go and live with her in the other Realm so I could learn to use my magic properly

I just laughed and told her she was mad. “Sarah” she muttered, “I’m not mad, it is true I’m a witch, your parents are witches too”. She went on to tell me about all the things she could teach me. I was amazed.

That night I lay in bed thinking about what Aunt Elizabeth had said to me and decided to talk to my parents about it.

My parents told me that they would stick by me whatever I decided, but I knew they never wanted me to go.

I decided that I wanted to go. Aunt Elizabeth said my first lesson would be travelling between the two worlds so I could visit Mum, Dad, Fluke and all my Mortal (Non magic) friends.
